Drone program members traveled to Tulsa on Feb. 6 to participate in a Federal Aviation Administration Part 107 certification test.

“The trip was an opportunity for our UAS-Drone Level 2 students to gain their industry level certification in the field of Unmanned Aerial Systems” drone teacher Grant Brewer said.

Students completed testing on computers ranging from reading and interpreting aeronautical charts to understanding airport operations. Drone flyers must demonstrate knowledge of the FAA rules and regulations as well as UAS safety operations.

“The test was easy since Mr. Brewer prepared us pretty well. The questions were mainly knowledge based,” junior Michael Young said.

In order to pass, students must receive a 70 percent. Seven students earned their license to fly aerial drones.
