Coached by Greg Gilliam and Braden Eades, the tennis team goes into their final tennis conference Oct. 1-2. 

“We have a pretty strong team going into conference. We are unique in that we are deeper than most teams. I’m excited for the tournament and I think we will do well,” senior Jack Kincannon said. 

Forty-Two players go undefeated at press time. Senior partners Anna Magness and Mackenzie Shell currently hold a 4-1 record.

“Conference is two weeks away, and I think we have a solid team who stand a good chance at winning conference and placing at state,” Shell said.

The team prepares for the upcoming conference tournament every day seventh period. 

“We start off the practice by running, on Fridays we run a mile and a half,” Shell said. 

Doing ball drills helps the team focus on hand-eye coordination to positively impact match turnouts.

“Playing tennis is a lot of fun, and to keep doing well, we have to put in a lot of work,” junior Zach Bean said. 

Providing insight, Andre Agassi, former international player, spoke to four members on Sept. 22.

“Andre is considered one of the greatest players and he’s won so many tournaments that it’s kind of amazing that we got the chance to play with him,” Shell said.
