Prospective members of National Honor Society attended an induction ceremony in the auditorium on Sept. 24. New members received a certificate and entrance into NHS.

“It’s time to celebrate the principles of National Honor Society Academics! The key is for NHS members to have the proper characteristics,” Sponsor Matthew Hominick said.

At 2:00 p.m., the audience recognized 175 new inductees. Having the four pillars– scholarship, service, leadership, and character– gave members the ability to become part of NHS.

“More people should join National Honor Society.  My favorite part of NHS is being an officer. I love working with others and help the community,” secretary of attendance Sabrina Phan said.

Between the ceremony, officers spoke about the four candles that symbolize the pillars and the importance of NHS.

“This is a new beginning for me. I hope to gain more communication skills and exceed the number of service hours,” junior Alyssa Truong said.

Afterwards, NHS members acquire an opportunity to volunteer at Beautifying Fort Smith on Oct. 21.
